I took a whole bunch of photos with “Joy of Cooking” stuck out in front, but it’s kindof an ugly book to photograph alongside the rest. I wanted this to be instantly recognizable as a set of cookbooks, but it turned out to just not work very well. So I ended up with this instead.
One thing I’m trying to figure out with this lens is how focusing works — it seems to not always autofocus very well, particularly in lower-light situations, so I end up having to manually focus. But then either the image is just blurry, or I end up focusing on the wrong part of the image. The other thing that’s surprising to me is that the focusing range is smaller than what I’m used to, so I get to a point where the only focusing I can do is to physically move the camera. I didn’t have that problem with the series of images I shot for today’s photo, however; the one below was autofocused, and I love how crisp the title text looks with. I also love how this image looks with the low aperture stop! It almost looks to me like the picture was taken in motion, and screeched to a halt just in front of the bookshelf.

This isn’t directly related to the picture, but I like the fact that your collection of cookbooks includes a folder of loose paper 🙂
My collection of cookbooks also includes a MySQL database on my computer that’s accessible via Firefox over my local network. But that’s harder to take a picture of.
