So I drove up to a town about half-an-hour north of here to take some photos with my new camera; there’s supposed to be an old abandoned air force base up there, which I thought sounded like a pretty cool thing to take pictures of. Turns out, it’s not. So I took pictures of this lake instead. It was suuuuper-windy:
On the way back, I stopped to take a picture of this tree that I’ve seen several times and have always wanted to shoot:

I do like the texture of the waves in #1 and especially like the black and white one. Don’t know why but the latter has an eerie sense to it. Gp
Despite being so incredibly windy, it was difficult to actually convey in a static picture. The first picture was my best stab at it.
I went back and forth on the last one whether or not I wanted it in color or black and white — they both have meritable qualities to them. I eventually settled on the black and white, but I’ll have to send you the color one when I get home and see what you think.
Whereas motion blur on objects (like people or cars) tends to convey a sense of motion, very slow shutter speed and motion blur on the water tends to just make it look calmer (that cotton candy look).
Agreed. I knew I needed an angle and shutter speed that would emphasize the choppiness of the water, as well as a bit of luck. There were a couple of others I had that I thought were actually framed a little bit better, but the water was much less choppy.
