Got this really awesome shot of Assembly Hall this morning. Unfortunately, I wasn’t paying any attention to my camera settings, so the original was really dark. And I shot at f/4, which meant nothing was in focus.
To get this final image, I took the original and created three copies, and then lightened one and darkened the other. Then I recombined them using an HDR plugin for the GIMP. Poor man’s HDR, I call it.

Wow. I’m intrigued by how you made copies and combined them into one. Sounds like something I’d like to learn, but first I need a dictionary for all those acronyms! đŸ™‚ Either way, the final product is really neat!
HDR is High Dynamic Range. It’s the effect you get when you take three (or more) shots of the same subject at different exposure settings, and then combine them in Photoshop afterwards. It makes for some really cool effects, because it’s able to capture all of contrast in the dark areas of your photo without blowing away the light areas. There are really cool examples here, though I suspect these images have had more done to them than just HDR techniques.
