A few months ago, one of our neighbors built up a rock sculpture memorializing the people who have died from COVID-19:
Each rock in the center counts for people who have died outside the United States, and the concentric circles show people who have died in the US. One can imagine that the proportions of this sculpture would be significantly different were it built today. The green mask was my addition to the photo, which hopefully was not too presumptuous of me.
Isaac saw this sculpture and was fascinated by it, and decided he wanted to build his own version. Each rock was meticulously colored with chalk before being stacked 🙂 Isaac didn’t say what the rocks in his sculpture meant, but I like to think that they symbolize “hope”:
I so appreciate how art inspires.
